It's a bird? It's a plane? No! It's Superdog!

Updated: Aug 8

Today, July 21st, as every year since 2004, we celebrate World Dog Day with the goal of recognizing the importance of dogs in our lives and raising awareness about animal abandonment, responsible adoption, and treating them with kindness.

This date was chosen to reflect on the role dogs play as loyal companions and to remind us of our responsibility to care for and protect them. It also aims to highlight the problem of abandonment: it’s estimated that millions of dogs live on the streets around the world.

Although July 21st is the most widely recognized date globally, it’s not the only one dedicated to dogs:

  • August 26th: Celebrated as “International Dog Day” in countries like the United States, with a focus on adoption and recognizing working and rescue dogs.

There are also other dates such as:

  • May 28th – Mixed Breed Dog Day

  • July 27th – Stray Dog Day

  • September 23rd – Adopted Dog Day

  • December 6th – Working Dog Day

So we couldn’t think of a better date than today to launch our new group course: Advanced Obedience for Superdogs.

Superdog, the new group course in advanced obedience for superdogs.
Superdog, the new group course in advanced obedience for superdogs.

Is your dog a fluffy four-legged Einstein?

Still not sure where his cognitive limits lie?

Do you love training and having fun together, but basic obedience just isn’t enough anymore? Then this is the course for you!

We'll start around mid-September. It will be a group course, lasting 10 weeks, and held at our school in Calvià. We'll start around mid-September. The day and time of the classes will be determined based on the availability of all registered families.

In this Super Dog course, we'll work on the following exercises and introduce you to various learning techniques:

  • The championship "stay," meaning we'll teach your dog to stay still despite a multitude of stimuli around him, even when his handler is out of sight. We'll also teach your dog how to refuse to leave with anyone taking his leash if his handler is not around.

  • Introduction to Trick Dogging, exercises, and tricks to stimulate your dog's mind, strengthen the bond, and have a great time. These skills go beyond basic obedience and include everything from simple tricks to complex acrobatics.

  • Introduction to the target technique, where the dog is taught to touch a specific object (the "target") with a part of its body, usually its nose or paw, to receive a reward. This technique is very versatile and can be used to teach a wide range of behaviors, from tricks to obedience skills.

  • Introduction to sniffing/object detection.

  • Introduction to the retrieving technique, the action of a dog searching for a specific object, picking it up, and delivering it to its handler voluntarily and accurately.

  • Introduction to fast mapping, a technique for quickly linking an object to a word based on a process of discrimination by exclusion.
